Nuclear applications

Natural zeolites with nano-sized porous space, excellent features of cation exchange and selective absorption, specific surface area, catalytic properties and chemical and physical stability have wide and increasing applications in nuclear industries, especially in the environmental sector:

Zeolites are used to clean pollution caused by radioactive leakage. In order of selective absorption, zeolites absorb isotopes of cesium, rbidium, lead, etc. earlier than others.
Zeolites are used for injecting and burying nuclear wastes for relatively unlimited times due to the absorption and non-absorption of nuclear materials.
Water sources such as seawater, which is used to cool nuclear reactors, are passed through zeolite filters to eliminate possible radioactive contamination.
It is better to use cement and zeolite aggregates for concrete and construction materials used in nuclear facilities. Such materials will have anti-radioactive properties.
Controlling the pollution caused by the explosions of Chernobyl and Fukushima by natural zeolites is valuable among the environmental applications of this material.
